Whether you work for a corporate, NGO, or government, one thing you cannot run away is attending meetings. In many cases, meetings can be long, boring and often end up without any productive outcomes. A self-made billionaire, and the founder of Virgin group, Richard Branson is an ace in getting best out of meetings. Here are his three meeting tips that he swears by.

Be punctual

This sounds elementary, but more often many of us ignore important rule.
According to Richard Branson
, “being on time is respectful to your hosts and also means you can effectively manage your day. Once you get behind, it is hard to catch back up again. Being punctual doesn’t mean rushing around the whole time. I always find the time to exercise – kitesurfing, tennis or cycling – and to spend time with my loved ones. It simply means organizing your time effectively.”

Unlike many, he is not the kind of person who looks for excuses when running late. Instead, when he found himself running late, he will often quite literally resort to running. Branson explains in a
Likedin post,
a real incident that happened when he was late for a meeting at Fox news.

“I was in New York a few years ago and our Virgin Unite events took a little longer than expected. The Manhattan traffic was typically hectic, and I found myself trapped on the other side of town, needing to get to Fox News in time for a live interview. As I peered out of the car window into the immobile queues, I jumped out of the front seat and sprinted down Sixth Avenue. I spotted the Fox sign, hopped across the lobby and began banging on the window. I made it with a minute to spare.”

Have stand up meetings

Stand up meetings are gaining popularity very fast in many tech companies. It makes people less comfortable as they have to stand through the meeting, and provides a better result in less amount of time. Branson says, he finds it to be a much quicker way of getting down to business, making a decision and sealing the deal. “When given the opportunity I often like to take things a step further—literally, with a walking meeting, ”
states the British billionaire in a company blog post.

Take notes

We often underestimate the power of effective note taking. From DaVinci to Edison, many of history’s great men of ideas were avid note takers. And Richard Branson is no different. “I go through dozens of notebooks every year and write down everything that occurs to me each day,”
says Branson in a Virgin blog post.
According to him “an idea not written down is an idea lost. When inspiration calls, you’ve got to capture it.”

So next time hold meeting like the high-flying billionaire and get the most out of it.
